2. Add Tomato Paste
Many sauce novices confuse tomato sauce with tomato paste. Tomato paste, as the name suggests, is a thicker, more concentrated form of tomato than sauce.
In addition or instead of cooking your store-bought sauce to remove water and make it thicker, you can add a few spoonfuls of tomato paste to your canned sauce. For best results, heat it up first so the sauce and the paste blend more smoothly. For some delicious touches, and if you have time, sautee your spoonfuls of tomato paste in olive oil for a bit before you add it to the sauce.
You may want to also take the opportunity to add some spices to your paste, such as minced garlic, oregano and basil. Make sure the paste is blended thoroughly and that you don’t see any strong clumps of paste in your tomato sauce.
