3. Organic Tastes Better
Commercially farmed produce has an entirely different taste to organically grown fruits and vegetables. Take a grapefruit for example. Grapefruit is one of the healthiest citrus fruits available. However, GMO practices modify the taste of grapefruit to be less bitter, reducing the number of polyphenol micronutrients found in the original fruit.
This reduction in polyphenols alter the taste of the grapefruit to a sweeter flavor but reduces the nutrition. As a result, you get a grapefruit that tastes more akin to an orange. Cut an organic grapefruit in half, and you’ll see a darker, ruby red color. Bite into the fruit, and you’ll notice a bitter-sweet flavor that’s almost entirely different from commercially farmed grapefruit.
The same goes for vegetables like kale and spinach. Industrial agriculture modifies the genetics of produce to increase the yield and shorten the flowering time of the plants. As a result, the plants don’t have the time necessary to develop the taste and flavor of organic produce.
