3. Curried Cottage Pie
While the last item on this list was a traditional English meal, this one is not traditional anywhere. This is fusion cooking that is nevertheless absolutely delicious. And the fact that no one has had it before only goes to make it all the more enjoyable.
To make this, you are going to start with the same beef mix but you’re going to add a little less of the beans and the peas. This will be much more like a bolognaise base with more tomato, maybe a little bacon, some garlic, and some onion. You’ll want to add some puree. Sweetcorn works well.
The twist comes because you’re also going to put in some chili powder or curry powder. This gives the mixture the spiciness that gives it its name, and it would make for a hot dish. Except you’re going to counteract that added spiciness by adding in the very sweet mango chutney. The result is something that is sweet, savory, and tangy all at once.
Likewise, the potato has a new twist: that being the addition of leaks. And you’re going to add lots more cheese when baking. It all might sound a little strange but we implore you not to judge until you’ve tried it. It’s amazing!
