2. Pay Attention to the Time
When it comes to cooking salmon, most people do not realize that the fish will actually bake quite quickly. Make sure that when you are cooking a piece of salmon that you stay near the oven. A good rule of thumb when it comes to cooking a piece of salmon is to allow around four to six minutes for each half of an inch of fish.
This means that if your salmon filet is about an inch thick at its thickest point it would be a good idea to let the fish cook for around eight minutes. If the filet is a bit thinner, check it sooner so that you do not overcook it. Of course, if it is thicker it is going to take longer to cook. The salmon filet is done when it flakes easily with a fork. The flesh of the fish will be opaque.
