2 With Red Onions
While the regular French onion soup is a classic and will normally use white onions, there are many ways you can vary this in order to get a slightly different flavor.
And switching to red onions is a great way to mix things up right away. Red onions will give you a much sweeter taste, and they have an excellent habit of becoming sticky and caramelized when you cook them. We recommend cooking on a high heat and if you swap the butter out for olive oil, then you’ll be left with something that is sweet and that definitely adds an interesting tanginess to your soup.
You can also mix both types of onion if you prefer!
