3 With Croutons
One of the best ways to serve any soup is with croutons, and this goes double for French onion soup, which is traditionally enjoyed in that way. The best croutons are of course the kind that you make yourself, and in this case, that’s going to mean using some thick slices of French bread, two cloves of garlic, and a little gruyere cheese that has been grated.
To make the croutons, you are going to toast the bread on both sides, and then rub it with the cut side of your garlic clove to cover it in delicious garlic. Top this with grated cheese and then place it all under the grill to allow the cheese to melt. It’s basically like small garlic bread. If you like, you can then chop it into small bits and place the croutons on top of the soup.
