Is it cheating to make a delicious cake from the cake mix?
The simple answer is: who cares?
If it tastes good, and if it was easier to make as a result of using a cake mix, then what does it really matter whether it is ‘cheating’? Unless you’re entering a village competition or something… it really doesn’t matter what you make or how you make it. All that matters is that it tastes fantastic and you have an awesome time creating it.
And the great news is that once you have this realization and you’re happy to start using cake mix in your creations, you’ll find that there are countless different delicious things you can make with a single cake mix.
And if you still have a problem then you can always make the cake mix yourself from scratch! Even then, this still gives you a very simple and repeatable starting step that you can then springboard from in order to make countless other fantastic and incredible cakes. Ideal for entertaining, and possibly even better for enjoying on your own.
Let’s get stuck in!
1. Chocolate Turtle Cake
Turtle cake is so-called because it has a harder outer layer that acts like the turtle’s shell. But like many big gruff men, it’s actual soft and sweet on the inside! Here, you’ll find pecans, cocoa frosting, and rich caramel. Perfect!
This cake is made from a cake mix of course and you’re also going to need some butter, water, vegetable oil, condensed milk, caramels, and pecans. You’ll be adding frosting on top of that.
To make the cake, simply combine the cake mix with butter, water, oil and half a can of condensed milk and blend. Then you’re going to divide the batter, setting half to one side. Bake the other half in a preheated oven for twenty minutes.
While this is going on, boil the caramels and the remaining half can of condensed milk but don’t let it burn. When the cake comes out the over, you’re going to spread the caramel mixture over the baked layer. Top off with sliced pecans. Next, spoon the left over batter over the caramel layer and return to the oven for thirty more minutes.
Finally, add the frosting – make as you see fit!
