2. Tomatoes for the Ketchup
So the first thing you need if you want to make tomato ketchup, is of course tomatoes. This is good news for those of us trying to be healthy, seeing as tomatoes are actually extremely healthy. Not only are they a good source of fiber and vitamin C, but they are also excellent antioxidants.
This means that they can combat the effects of ‘free radicals’ in the body – molecules that travel around our system and which bombard the cell walls. Over time, free radicals can lead to visible external damage. And if this continues for a long time, then they can eventually break through to the nucleus that houses the DNA. In here, they might then cause damage to the genetic blueprint housed within every cell.
This is a very bad thing because those blueprints are what the body uses in order to make exact copies of cells. When the DNA is damaged, it results in imperfect copies of the cells being spread, which in turn means that you can develop cancer.
So tomatoes are extremely good for us, and if you use chopped tomatoes from a tin, then you will be getting all of that goodness with no compromises – it’s just a little more convenient.
