2. Churros with Caramel
What you need:
- Vegetable oil
- ½ cup of whole milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- Tsp of salt
- 1 ½ cups of flour
- Tsp baking soda
For the caramel
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- ½ cup of half and half
- 4 tbsp of butter
- Salt
- Tbsp of vanilla
- ¼ tsp cayenne
Coating:
- 1 cup of sugar
- Tbsp of cinnamon
To make:
Heat up vegetable oil in a frying pan. Put the milk, sugar, butter, salt, and 1 ¼ cups of water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil. In a small bowl, mix together the flour and the baking soda. Remove the sugar mixture from the stove and add in the flour mixture. Stir until a ball forms. Allow to cool. To make the caramel, combine all of the ingredients in a pan and cook over medium heat. Cook until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat and pour into a dipping bowl. Transfer the batter into a piping bag. Pipe tubes about 4 inches long into the hot oil. Cook until browned. Remove and place on paper towels. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and roll the churros in the mixture. Serve with the caramel sauce.
