Halloween might be the scariest night of the year, but it’s also a whole lot of fun and a time that is fantastic to celebrate with family. Kids love getting in the festive spirits, and parents love doing what they can to make the occasion suitably spooky.
Of all the Halloween traditions, one of the most unique, creative, and fun is carving the pumpkin. This is a process that can be very simple and straightforward – it’s thankfully pretty easy to craft a basic face – but it can also be a chance to show off, to try something different, and to out-do the neighbors. In this post, we’ll look at 15 ways to make your pumpkin ideas really stand out!
1. The Classic
Let’s start with the classic. That means pointed teeth, triangular nose, and eyes… you know the story! This is the ‘default’ pumpkin face because it is so simple and easy but still makes an impression. It’s a little spooky – with a sinister grin and evil eyes – but it’s also not going to be sinister enough to be actually terrifying for younger children.
This is a great starting point and one that kids can do themselves too. The trickiest part is the mouth, but if you struggle with that, then you can get around the challenge by simply cutting the mouth as a line rather than going to all the effort of creating individual sharp teeth.
The finishing touch is, of course, the candle – add this inside and you’ll give your pumpkin, glowing, flickering eyes! Sometimes the originals are really hard to beat!
Of course, to insert the candle, you’ll also need to cut off the top of the head, creating a lid that you can use to drop the candle in.
