2 – Fried Green Tomatoes
Red tomatoes can also be used for this recipe, but you’ll need to ensure that they aren’t too ripe otherwise they’ll end up too mushy to enjoy. You can serve these tomatoes alongside a cool glass of iced tea during pool parties.
You’ll start by slicing tomatoes until they are half an inch in thickness. Be sure to discard the ends or save them for a salad. Put some flour on one plate then add cornmeal, salt, pepper, and bread to another.
Dip the tomatoes into the flour until they’re evenly coated. Once they have a healthy coating of flour, dip the tomatoes into a milk-egg mixture then cover them completely in breadcrumbs. Pour vegetable oil into a large skillet then preheat on medium.
The easiest way to know when you have enough oil is when its volume covers half an inch of the pan. Put the tomatoes into the frying pan until both sides are equally brown, then drain the oil and serve them.
