Once you know how to make pizza, you will give yourself almost limitless options for things you can make. Pizza is incredibly versatile in that way, and actually it has a bad rap almost.
Because many of us think of pizza as being this unhealthy thing we get as a takeaway when we can’t quite be bothered to cook. We think of it as being greasy fast food, as being a luxury that we eat in front of the television. But actually, pizza does not have to be unhealthy in the slightest. If you make a pizza crust, then that in itself is not really any more healthy or any less healthy than bread. In that way, it’s like a sandwich!
Cheese is almost always included on a pizza but it doesn’t have to be. And while cheese might be fatty, recent research seems to suggest that this doesn’t necessarily make it unhealthy – in fact, the right amount of saturated fat is actually now thought to be very good for us! It’s also rich in calcium and it’s rich in protein.
Tomato, on the other hand, is very good for us. And from there, it’s really up to you what else you use. As long as they’re natural ingredients, there’s no reason that this should be considered to be fast food or greasy food.
So with all that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the most creative, delicious, healthy, indulgent… and generally varied different pizzas you can make from just that one crust!
1. Margarita
It seems wrong to start with anything other than Margarita. This is your classic pizza flavor – almost the pizza before you add any flavorings to it. Mozzarella often gets a bad wrap for being a boring pizza but that’s only because we have it a lot. In fact, the combination of tomato and cheese has lasted so long simply because it is incredibly timeless and it’s something that you’re never going to really grow tired of. Add these two together and you have the savory, rich cheese, combined with the sweet and tangy tomato – it’s really ideal.
We really love this combination and the other great thing is that when you make it yourself, it’s up to you how you want to mix up the quantities. Make it more cheesy or less cheesy. Swap out the mozzarella cheese for something else. It’s all up to you!
