6. Master the Art of Assembling a Casserole
The most challenging part of making any casserole is the assembly of the ingredients. Get this stage of the recipe wrong, and you’ll end up with a corn casserole that’s less than stellar. Can you imagine preparing what you thought was the perfect meal, only to have your family turn their noses up at your hard work?
The secret is in the assembly. Fortunately, this isn’t as difficult as it sounds. We don’t want to make it seem like rocket science, but the most critical part of the correct assembly is in following the recipe plan to the tee.
Remember to leave space in the dish for the casserole ingredients to rise when they heat. If you don’t leave any additional room, your casserole will bubble up and fall on the elements in the oven, creating smoke that gasses you out of the kitchen. We recommend leaving a third of the dish open giving the ingredients the opportunity to rise without spilling over.
