5 Get a Good Jar
While sprouting involves soaking the water, the most important part of the process is actually the time spent in the jar. Any jar will work, but there are a few things to consider if you want the best results: for instance, you should pick a jar that is transparent so that you can see what’s going on inside! At the same time, the right size of jar is also useful – for half a cup of grain, you’ll usually want about a 1-quart mason jar. Remember: the grains increase in size!
You should also cover the jar with some kind of screen or mesh so that the water can drain and so that air can circulate. Remember that you should be placing this somewhere warm and moist – so you want somewhere that will be dark and humid, a little like proving. Think about spots in your home where you can place your jar where it won’t be disturbed and where it will have the best conditions.
