4 Hash Brown
If you want to make a hash brown then you are only really going to make a few small changes from the original recipe. Potato pancakes are typically held together with egg, and in some cases with a little bit of flour as well.
On the other hand though, hash browns are normally just potato mixed with onion and seasoning (though even the onion is optional!). Just shred your potatoes into a large bowl with cold water. Stir until the water is cloudy, then drain, and cover the potatoes again with fresh cold water. Heat some butter in a large non-stick pan, add the potatoes, and cook until a brown crust forms at the bottom – it should take about 5 minutes.
This is essentially the same thing in terms of taste and appearance, so it’s really up to you which you prefer. The potato cakes though are the ones you’ll find in Switzerland and other parts of Europe being enjoyed as entire meals.
