3. Choose a residence for your starter
You’ll need to find a peaceful spot where your starter can ferment without being disturbed by spouses, children, or pets. You’ll also need to maintain a constant temperature for the sourdough starter to ferment properly.
Find an area where you can keep the temperature between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Any area that fluctuates in temperature beyond the 20-degree margin is a no-go. If you can’t find a warm area to leave your starter, you can turn the oven light on to heat the area.
Just turn on the light, not the oven itself. If you don’t have an oven or aren’t comfortable leaving its light on for an extended period of time, you can leave your sourdough starter on the top of your refrigerator. The tops of refrigerators are pretty warm and they maintain a constant temperature so they could make a good home for your starter while it goes through the fermentation process.
