3. Wild Rice: Canada
Canadian wild rice is much different than what is considered wild rice in America. In fact, wild rice from Canada is closer to wild grass than actual rice. Here is what you need to make the perfect Canadian wild rice.
- A cup of rinsed wild rice
- 3 cups of water
- Salt
- 1 or 2 sprigs of thyme
To make:
Add the three cups of water to a large cooking pot. Add in some salt to taste. Bring the water and salt to a boil and then add in the cup of rice. Add in the sprigs of time and then simmer the rice until it is fully cooked. The cooking time for Canadian wild rice is about 45 minutes up to an hour. When the rice is cooked, drain any excess water from the rice and then remove the thyme sprigs. Let the rice sit for about ten or fifteen minutes. Fluff the wild rice with a fork and then serve.
