4. Add Anchovies (yes, really)
You may not realize that you love anchovies but you probably do. Even if you feel certain you don’t like them, you have probably been enjoying the flavor of these miniature fishes but may not realize that you are eating fish because the fish aren’t visible and have been melted out of sight. This is the way they should be added to bring a more powerful flavor to your marinara sauce.
Even non-fish lovers will enjoy this accent to pasta sauce. Simply heat up olive oil in a saucepan along with garlic. Put a few anchovies in the hot oil and cook them until they dissolve. You can also add a splash of soy or Worcestershire sauce to complement the anchovies and add a bold taste, especially if you feel these canned sauces tend to be too sweet.
A good sauce should contain a balance of flavors, and piquant flavors harmonize well with sweet tomatoes.
