4. Unsalted and unseasoned Onion Rings
If you really appreciate the taste of onion, you might want to think about trying these unsalted onion rings which allow you to focus on the natural flavor of the base ingredient, the humble onion. These rings are plain, on purpose.
Preparation: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 5 Minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion chopped into fat rings
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup of self-raising flour
- 1 or 2 cups vegetable oil or low-fat oil spray
Method:
1. Keep it simple by separating the eggs and the flour into shallow trays or bowls.
2. Mix the eggs to combine the yolk and the white together.
3. Heat the oil to 360 degrees Fahrenheit. Be careful!
4. Dunk the onions into the egg and then into the flour. Nice and simple!
5. Depending on how well cooked you like your onion, place the rings into the hot pan and allow them to cook until you like the look of them. Some people like a little more bite to their onion and opt for a little less time in the oil.
6. Before eating, allow the oil to drain from the rings and serve with a garnish of your choosing.
