5. Pregnancy Support
Pregnant women should take note of this section. Nutritional yeast contains the nutrient “folic acid,” a B-vitamin that’s popular with food manufacturers for fortifying grain cereals and supplements due to its potent properties when processed by the body.
Folic acid undergoes conversion in the digestive system to active vitamin B9, also known as 5-MTHF. This conversion allows your body to reap the benefits of folic acid. Some people are less efficient at converting folic acid due to their genetics.
These individuals have a genetic mutation that affects 5-MTHF production, leading to an accumulation of folic acid in the body. Unfortunately, an abundance of this nutrient in your blood can lead to severe adverse health consequences that result in a weak immune function, reduced brain efficiency, and accelerated growth of cancerous cells.
However, folic acid is an essential nutrient for pregnant women. Taking between 400 to 800 mcg of folic acid every day prevents congenital abnormalities while supporting fetal growth.
