4. Prevents gastric ulcers
One of the most common illnesses that affect humans is stomach ulcers. Stomach ulcers are a type of sore that manifest in the lining of the stomach. This can lead to severe pain, bloating, and nausea.
Most gastric ulcers are caused by a bacteria known as H. pylori. Studies have shown that H. pylori bacteria can be attacked by manuka honey which can treat existing ulcers or prevent the formation of these sores before the bacteria even takes hold.
One study showed that manuka honey is, in fact, an effective treatment against gastric ulcers due to its antibacterial properties reducing the levels of H. pylori bacteria. That said, a different study conducted a test on 12 participants.
Each participant consumed (orally) one tablespoon of manuka honey every day for two weeks. The results showed no visible decrease in the level of H. pylori bacteria in the stomach of the participants.
