5. Support Your Local Economy
Industrial agriculture not only uses chemicals in the production process, but they also add them to the packaging and delivery of the food as well. These dangerous substances extend the shelf life of vegetables, meat, and dairy. As an experiment, visit a farm stall and pick up a gallon of fresh milk. Then stop past a store on your way home and buy a gallon of commercial dairy farm milk. When you return home, put them both in the fridge and see which one starts smelling off first. Commercial dairy comes pasteurized to kill off the beneficial bacteria. As a result, the milk lasts longer but lacks the same nutritional value as of fresh farm milk.
Support your local farmers market and buy local, fresh produce, dairy, and meat. Organic farmers are in short supply, and they need all the business they can get to stay active and support the communities they serve.
